Moroccan rugs lMagnificent hand-knotted & handmade wool moroccan double-sided rugs made by berber women in the Atlas Mountains. One-of-a-kind. Took women who made this more than 20 months to loom some rugs and have to wait 20 months to make a living while they dwell in the steep of the high mountain in the Atlas
Moroccan rugs will likely last for generations, because hand-knotted carpets are extremely durable. Theyhave a low pile, making it even more durable than other styles of carpet, because they are difficult to snag.
Most of our rugs are rectangular. The general design is quilt-like, with two pairs of columns of alternating squares on each row. Each large square design in the main canton appears twice. they were loomed to look like stained glass windows. The internal border work is outstanding as is the outside border and the fringe. The colors are rich, vibrant, exquisite and varied. The wool is died with a process that has been traditionally employed by Moroccans. As long as you take care of the carpet, the colors will not visibly fade.
The moroccan rugs are double-sided and meant to be flipped every six months or so. One could use the shorter-pile "bottom" in the summer and the short-but-longer-pile "front-side" in the winter. On Moroccan looms, this signifies it is of high quality. Please note that because our rugs are handmade hand-knotted, there is some minimal variation in count over any given measured inch. This does not affect its quality, and adds to its uniqueness.
